About Rosalie

Rosalie Urban

Rosalie is an emerging artist with a deep passion for exploring the expressive potential of acrylics. Inspired early in her creative journey by the words of Romare Bearden — “You don’t paint what you see, you paint what you feel” — Rosalie approaches her work with a strong emotional connection, using various mediums and techniques to bring her vision to life.

Since retiring in 2019, Rosalie has dedicated herself to developing her artistic voice. Her work reflects an ongoing exploration of styles, textures, and personal expression. Over the years, she has shared her art with family and friends through both gifts and sales.

Rosalie also gives back to her community through her art. In both 2024 and 2025, she participated in the Kelowna Women’s Shelter Annual Story & Art Event, creating pieces inspired by assigned narratives and donating them to the shelter. Most recently, in May 2025, she contributed several artworks to a fundraising event at the Lake Country Art Gallery in support of local arts initiatives.

In July 2025, Rosalie had 3 paintings and 10 postcards being shown at The Alternator, Rotary Arts Center.

Rosalie continues to grow as an artist, using her canvas as a way to connect, and express her creativity.

artist Statement

I have always been drawn to vibrant colors—whether in clothing, home décor, or art. Color has a powerful way of bringing joy and energy, and it has become the heart of my creative expression. I began my art journey after retirement, inspired by a desire to explore new techniques, mediums, and the endless possibilities of color.

In the beginning, I created experimental pieces and happily gave many of them to family and friends. Their enthusiastic responses, especially to my bold color combinations and unique style, encouraged me to continue. I often hear, “I like it—it’s something different,” which affirms that I’m creating work that resonates in a personal and distinctive way.

Today, I primarily work with acrylics and alcohol inks to bring my visions to life. Each piece is an exploration—of mood, movement, and the joy of creating something beautiful and unexpected. If a piece speaks to you, or if you have a photo you’d like to see transformed into a painting, I’d love to collaborate.

I have decided to share with you my pieces that I have painted following a lesson.  This was a great opportunity for me to learn.  If you see any piece or style from a lesson that interests you, I can create a painting for you.
